About the Artist
Australian artist, Sue Nagel, has had 20 solo exhibitions around the world and sold over 1,000 paintings in a career that has spanned 50 years, and is still thriving. She has had numerous exhibitions all over Australia, and in London, California, Asia and North Africa. Her launch overseas was spring-boarded by the London exhibition at Madden Galleries in 1984, which was opened by Captain Mark Phillips and was a complete sell-out, where Sue caught the attention of the media, which then led to her successful exhibition at the America’s Cup in Perth, sponsored by IMG. From there, she was encouraged to have solo exhibitions in La Jolla California, China and Morocco. Her paintings can be found in private collections all over Australia and the world.
The themes of Sue’s paintings and artwork stem from her fascination with the Australian landscape, gaining inspiration both from nature and her creative imagination. Her passion for the Australian countryside stems from her youth growing up in the Wimera district of Victoria, and from traveling extensively all over the country. Her works depict scenes of the harsh, outback plains in the red centre with its expansive horizons and earthy colours, to the lush, vibrant rain forests of northern Queensland, with it’s intensely rich palette of deep blues and greens. With her exquisite sense of colour and simplistic, whimsical style, Sue captures the very essence, the beauty of life in the Australian outback during its pioneering years, with its austere, arid, sunburnt plains, expansive horizons and enveloping blue skies.
Sue’s beloved, recurring themes are of:- vibrant flora and fauna and the splendid colourful bird life of Australia; animated scenes of wild horses frolicking; jackaroos breaking in horses; jackaroos resting at campsites after a long day of mustering; tribal Aboriginees working as guides for the renowned turn of the century pioneer, Daisy Bates; and her popular outback picnic race meetings. Hugely popular also are her Australian country garden and flower scenes, with their creative depictions of wild flowers, butterflies, blue wrens, lush reeds, and the occasional fox, rabbit, duck or egret resting by the riverbed or garden pond. These aesthetically beautiful paintings encapsulate an idealic, unspoiled, tranquil world in nature, where peace, harmony and balance reign.
Sue’s passion for painting and her abounding creative inspiration continue to flourish. Nothing gives her more pleasure than knowing that her paintings are well received and that they provide joy to those who love her work.
